Repurpose. Reuse. Recycle

How to get more mileage from your content

We’re here to talk about recycling! ♻️

Recycling content, of course. Now, we don’t mean regurgitating carbon copies of all your posts - not our style. Instead, we’re going to show you how to repurpose your existing content to:

  • maximise reach and engagement

  • utilise multiple platforms

  • and make the most of your high-performing content.

Coming up with (and then executing) creative, successful content ideas is, let’s face it, knackering. So, if it ain’t broke, don’t condemn it to be a one-platform-wonder! Let’s break down how you can make this work for you 👇

Ways To Repurpose Content

When talking about repurposing content, there are two main approaches you can take:

  • Same content, different format - e.g. turning a convo on a podcast episode into an infographic

  • Same content, different focus - e.g. a recent panel talk discussing an industry issue, revisited through the lens of potential solutions

Option 1: Different Format

There are many different formats we can explore when repurposing your content. In order to select one, we need to consider what platform the content is currently on and what platform you plan to repurpose it for. Soooo:

  • A long-form YouTube video (such as a panel) can be re-hashed into multiple short clips - time-saving tip: use AI to generate these!

  • A video that performed well on TikTok could be turned into an infographic to be shared on LinkedIn

  • A post that got lots of hype on LinkedIn could be turned into a video summary and shared on Instagram and TikTok

  • Key takeaways from a panel talk, event or webinar could be turned into a series of written LinkedIn posts, or even a blog or PR piece

  • And blog articles containing valuable info could become eye-catching infographics or videos

There are loads of ways you can make this method work for your content and target audience, and it lends itself really well to ad-hoc content recycling when something does well or you need last-minute social posts. There is no shame in reusing content and, frankly, it would be a waste not to. Keep in mind the target platform and the format which best suits it and you’re good to go!

Option 2: Different Focus

Now, this method requires a liiittle more thought, but has the potential to snowball into longer content series, be relevant to a wider audience, and just keep things ✨spiced up✨

This approach works really well following a panel, webinar or attending an event – anytime you gather new, valuable insights or have relevant discussions, this is a great way to generate social content.

Someone who has done a great example of this recently is Director of The Occasionall Group | Festivall Staff & Occasionall Staff (and our good pal), Josh Heyburn!

After featuring in a panel discussion about money in the events industry (alongside two of our EC gang, no less 😏), Josh posted several LinkedIn posts honing in on key points of the discussion, sharing more in-depth insights, and offering up various potential solutions. As a keen advocate of Living Wage employment and a director of a staffing agency, this was a perfect way for Josh to reiterate and expand upon the points made in this talk, get this message to an audience beyond those who attended in person, and emphasise his expertise in this area – all while boosting his engagement. A win-win-win if you ask us 🤷

Bonus: Identify high-performing content

While you can apply these tips to whatever content you like, we would recommend identifying your most high-performing content as a jumping- off point. You can use built-in analytics on your social media platforms or website to identify top blog articles, webinars, or social posts that are ripe for repurposing. Pay particular attention to posts that spark conversations, questions and engagement from your audience.

Conclusion

Repurposing content is the ultimate ‘work smarter, not harder’ tactic. And we think everyone should make it a staple in their social media strategy. Not only are you getting your valuable insights, case studies or advice out to more people, but you’ll soon notice patterns of which mediums, topics and platforms generate the best returns.
